Enjoyed my 21 years in the band program. First assignment 5th Army Band with Hedspeth, Cottingham, Lou Wells, then to the Field Band with Fricano, Bandmaster course with Johannsen, 5th Infantry, 3rd Armored, 26th Army Band NYC, and finally back to the Field Band directing the JAs. Loved it and love working with all the great people I met. Teaching compositiion now at the U. of Arkansas Fort Smith.

Joined Association of Retired Military Musicians 1997, Now Vice President and love this organization. A vote is in order to delete the retired and make it AMM which can only make this organization grow. I encourage you and all your people join up. It's only $15.00 a year and we do what miliary musicians do when we get together. Last year was in Oklahoma City, this year in Huntsville, AL.

Thanks for getting this website up and running! Do you also know about the Association of Retired Military Musicians? You will probably be able to find many band folks in our group there as well. I have set up a group site on FB (which is where EVERYBODY is, you know!) and invite all you folks here to join us there too. Hope we can populate this site with many more alumni!

Folks - You've missed the 5th Infantry Division (M) Band at Ft. Polk. I was there when Ft. Polk was experimenting with being a "light infantry division" from 1978-1980. The division actually had vehicles that looked like armored dune buggies. Very strange. Regards, Mark Kovach

Hey John Reed... I was a flute player when you were there the second time... between 1975-1978.

To see the 113th US Army Band, under the "leadership" of CW4 Brian Arnold perform in Bill Murray's 1981 movie "Stripes", go to Crackle.Com & enter "Stripes" in the search field. If you advance the movie to the 1hr10min mark, you can recognize several armyband members in their 4 minute performance!

In 69 the band was the 4th Army HQ band. There was a change in HQ and we bacame the 5th Army HQ band. Played graduations for BAMC, marched weekend parades all over Texas. I see that the band is now a Medical Corps band

I had 3 assignments at the 74th ending in my retirement 12/88. I am trying to find as many alumni as I can to eventually have a reunion weekend sometime in the future in Indianapolis. Let me know when you were there and some names to track down.

Thanks to whoever got this up and running. I've been making some contacts with my old Army Band buddies and hope to find more! Still playing after all these years! I play Bass Trombone in several big bands in the Dallas Ft Worth area and went on to play professionally in a rock band called "Hired Help" in Germany and a variety Club Band called "Brave Men" in Florida.
